Creating Powerful Research Presentations

Most of us do not give presentations just for the fun of it. We give them for a reason. For example, to explain new research findings or as part of a job interview. Regardless of the topic, every presentation has a message, an audience, and a desired outcome/goal. And if we want to deliver presentations that get our audience’s attention and keep it, we have to think about a presentation as a strategic opportunity to communicate our work.

In this workshop, we will use journalism, public relations, and marketing techniques and principles to explore strategic research communication in the context of presentations. Damiano Group, LLC a woman and Ph.D. scientistowned scientific communications consulting practice will offer private coaching and deliver a custom virtual workshop focused on practical skills for careers in science communication, science and healthcare marketing, business, and commercialization. Specifically, the workshop will focus on how to create powerful presentations. The ability to create powerful presentations, i.e., those that are tailored to the audience, are memorable, and inspire them to act toward a desired outcome, is an essential skill not only for science marketers and communicators, but for all researchers. Additionally, for myCHOICE trainees interested in these careers, this programming will bring awareness of the skills that will help create a competitive advantage in the job search.

This workshop will include a one–hour seminar. Up to four participants can also sign up to work alongside the seminars for private coaching. These consultations will be given in four 30-minute virtual coaching sessions (2 hour total). Signups for coaching are on a first-come, first-served basis.
