Background & Internship Description

The Center for Research Informatics (CRI) at the University of Chicago is a 40-person group that provides collaborative informatics research services to the Biological Sciences Division. To help enable the mission of the CRI, an intern is sought to assist in the identification of funding opportunities and subsequent development and submission of grants. The intern will work closely with the faculty Director of the CRI, Dr. Volchenboum, to understand the complete ‘pipeline’ of grant developmpent.

Specific Objectives

  • Gain familiarity with the grant identification and development process, including understanding eligibility, identifying collaborators, developing budgets, and collecting all of the necessary pieces of the submission (letters, CVs, facilities descriptions, etc.)

  • The goal will be to prepare a grant for submission.

Qualifications

The successful intern will be a strong scientist, a self-learner, and a meticulous writer. Prior experience in developing parts of grants will be helpful but is not required. Domain-specific knowledge of information technology is not required. A second quarter of internship will be considered based on success during the first quarter and interest from the Intern and the CRI.
