Careers in Product Support & Field Engineering

Monday, April 19th, 5:30-6:30 PM CST

Do you enjoy training colleagues or new lab members in the use of technology and helping to troubleshoot gnarly experimental data? Attend next week’s What can I do with my PhD? career seminar to hear from our panelists, Danika Bakke (PhD’16, Molecular Metabolism and Nutrition) and Joe DiPietro (postdoc ’18, Neurobiology) who will discuss their academia-to-product support transition, what surprised them, and how they are thinking about their career trajectories at this time.

Danika Bakke

Solutions & Support Scientist, LI-COR Biosciences

Danika is a Solutions & Support Scientist at LI-COR, where she provides scientific support to researchers across academia, industry, and government. She uses the teaching and lab skills gained during her PhD and postdoc to provide technical presentations, help with protocol development, and troubleshoot experiments. After spending years at the lab bench, Danika enjoys talking to scientists about their work, helping them overcome challenges, and contributing to scientific discovery or therapeutic development without ever having to lift a pipette.

Joe DiPietro

Senior Biosystems Application Manager, Nikon

Joe received his PhD in Neurobiology at Cornell University. He did a short postdoc at the University of Chicago in a similar field. After his postdoc he took a job as an Imaging Specialist for Nikon Instruments Inc. Initially in a sales and support role, he is now working in the product side of the company as a member of the applications and training team.
