This week’s “What Can I Do With my PhD? career seminar will feature three scientists working in biotechnology companies that focus on creating innovative and sustainable food & nutrition products. They will share their career journeys, their driving principles, and what they love about working in the food science industry.
Amy Andes, PhD
Product Development Scientist, Abbott Nutrition
Amy Andes just completed her PhD in food science at the Ohio State University. While she was there, Amy started her own company geared toward creating a more inclusive space in the food industry for people with dietary restrictions. She has created nut butters and dessert toppings out of garbanzo beans as hopes to continue developing innovative food products for the rest of her career!
Innu Chaudhary, PhD
Senior Scientist, Impossible Foods
Dr. Innu Chaudhary received her PhD in Biological Systems Engineering from Washington State University in 2017. She’s been working with Impossible Foods’s Downstream Isolation R&D team for 4.5years and focuses on developing new technologies for protein process development and commercialization thereof. She works as technical lead on Heme projects together with Multi-functional teams across IF, ranging from research to scale-up commercialization, to product for Heme-protein.
Nihkita Mansukhani Kogar, PhD
Innovation Scientist, Beyond Meat
Nikhita is an Innovation Scientist at Beyond Meat, working towards new food technology for sustainability and animal welfare. She received a BS in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University in 2017, where she focused on toxicity and biomedical applications of nanomaterials under the guidance of Prof. Mark Hersam. Following graduate school, Nikhita worked in the medical device industry for three years at Arsenal Medical, a start up in Boston, and Medtronic before joining the food industry. Outside of work, Nikhita enjoys running, baking, and finding the best hidden patio spots in LA
